I\'ve knew John back in 1967, while a student at Potsdam State with my first motorcycle, when he worked out of a barn. While attending my 40th reunion I picked up a nail in my rear tire (Goldwing 1800)- he dropped everything on a Saturday to get me on the road again - a new Dunlop tire, mounted, balanced, all for a super reasonable price (I was heading back to south NJ on Sunday, so I was really in a tight spot). Thanks much, John - glad to see nothing has changed except your location! Jerry
I have known of John for a long time.Years ago family members have purchased from him when he just had a barn he was working out of. I certianly commend him for the buissness he's built and recognize his accomplishments. In recent years I've stopped there to price motorcycles and recieved better prices then competitors, however, I purchased elsewhere. I must say a very little bit of John's attitude goes a long ways! I was a new rider looking to purchase and I had alot of questions, so he made me feel like I was wasting his time, or possibly he thought I was dreamer who turned out to be someone elses costumer!! Yes I did pay a little more for the product but I also feel I got a little more!! No hard feelings though, just would not do buissness with him.
Sorry we will miss you for New HD sales. I hope your used sales come together and put fly by's like Lofinks away. Been buying from John for over 25 years, always treated fair. Its not easy raising generXer kids. Keep at it John. Rich S
Showed up without appointment, had service done, bought accesories, service was excellent, they still loan tools to install accesories as they did in 1982. Prices, no one can touch or even come close. Highly recomended. Thanks Rick
I have been buying from John since 1991 John has always been good with me, cannot say the same about his son.
I've been buying new HD's since 1987 from John and I am happy traveling several hours to buy from him. I tried buying local in Rochester NY but nobody would come within $2,000 back then so why wouldn't I drive to Potsdam? I always added extras and was happy to refer customers who also bought there. Thanks again John,
sale staff non existant, service untrained half wit kids, johns son and daughter arrogant snobs unless your from across the border. price is what kept people buying! no suprise hd pulled out too bad soo sad good riddens to sovies hd it's about time!!
John Sovie the owner of Sovie’s Cycle Shop is nothing but a liar. I ordered over $2,000.00 in parts from him back in June of 2008, but all’s he did was say that the parts will be in every month that I inquired about them thereafter. I checked with him in August ‘08, and September ’08 he called me to come by his shop so he could make a copy of my registration for the VIN# that he needed it to order some of the painted parts, so I stop by that day and gave him my registration. October came and still no parts and he said for me to store my bike over at his shop and he guaranteed that they would be in soon. I agree to store the bike at his location on two conditions 1) he would be done with the install of new parts by April ’09 and 2) that he put my bike in covered storage and that he covers up my bike with my supplied bike cover. He agreed, but Sovie’s did neither of these when I picked up my bike on April 2, 2009. None of the parts were installed and the bike was covered in dirt from front to back. You could even tell where it had rained on the back of the saddle bags. The bike cover was still in the saddle bag and it was clean, so it wasn’t used. I knew in January ’09 Sovie’s wasn’t even going to install the parts, because he called me and asked me what was he suppose to do with my bike that he could not remember all the parts that he was suppose to order for it even though I gave him a list of all the parts with part numbers. John Sovie is an idiot and a terrible business man do not buy anything from him. I tried to buy local and got burned for doing so even when I was warned not to buy from him and that was my mistake and I hope it won’t be yours. Buyer beware! Vinny
would not fix my bike 3 mounths old
Told by friend in Sudbury Ontario about this shop in NY. close to the Ontario Border. Thought we would check it out. Wouldn't go elsewhere anymore! My service techs seem a little rough but are always respectful and take time to show and tell me the need to know things that the manuel didn't explain. This place is a good experience and the prices are the best... Rose.
I thought Sovies was in Canton or Potsdam NY. However the owner I believe is John and this guy is a wealth of knowledge. He is beyond doubt a go to guy if you need help locating parts, old or new. His staff seem a bit redneck but they do know their stuff. They put on no false aires and it is actually a fun experience going there. They encourage proper maintenance and point out real concerns...vs...tell me this to sell me that ideology. Quite honestly I used to wonder why Other Harley or Honda dealers talked negatively about this place until I went there. Now I know. Once you have been there you don,t want to go anywhere else! (as long as you're not in a big rush as service is no appointment required but the bigger jobs and emergencies come before the small stuff which still gets done.
We have a Harley now after a Honda and a Suzuki. We bought a new Harley in Canada as Sovies could not sell us a new bike but recommended the store we bought from. After the sale the selling dealer learned we were going to service it at Sovies. They told us service was bad, Technicians were not authorized and even the warranty could be cancelled. I confirmed with Corporate Harley in Toronto that this was not true. My brother who lives in the USA has just bought our second Harley. We will do the paper flip in the spring and bring it back as used. Service will also be at Sovies as we both like this place. Sovies should teach other Harley stores how to service what they sell and not worry about the guy down the road. My new 08 was bought outside of NY. because Sovies helped us find it and felt it was easier to buy from the other store vs trading one of theirs for ours just to make the sale. Getting to know these guys has been a ton of laughs. They seem to hate each other but it's all in fun and weather it's buying chrome, gear or getting service this is one 7 star experience. Thanks Gang "Lou"
